Development

Node Release

May 14th
  • A major node version, V22.0 Siliqua, was completed and released with key improvements to voting & election efficiency, along with more database options and experimental support for pruning the ledger.
  • Final votes
  • To help with handling specific fork situations, final votes were added to create a second round of voting for each block. After a network upgrade via a canary block was done, this update added additional robustness to the consensus mechanism.

  • RocksDB for production use
  • Originally introduced as experimental in V20.0, support for RocksDB as the backend to the node was made available for use in production nodes. This new setup has shown promise in reducing disk activity in some node scenarios.

  • Experimental ledger pruning
  • An initial, experimental version of a much requested feature was added to help reduce the disk space required for the ledger by removing blocks not near the frontiers or that are pending sends. Although only non-voting nodes will allow this feature, it is a step towards more efficient ledger handling in the future.

  • Election scheduler and prioritization changes
  • A new election prioritization and scheduling mechanism was designed and the initial updates for this feature are included in V22.0. These changes will keep work generation as a requirement for transactions to be valid, but switch the election scheduler and prioritization behaviors to use a combination of balance and time since the account was last used.
